More and more people fall into a state of depression and helplessness when faced with stressful situations at the office. The main reason: ineffective or inexistent stress relief management. In order to function normally and be able to put out your best everyday you will need to manage the stresses that you are feeling. When left alone stress can bring along with it a lot of physical and mental problems affecting your productivity; it can leave you feeling weak, anxious, depressed and “burned out”.
So in order to avoid all the inconveniences that stress may bring, effective management is needed. Keep in mind that you will need to choose which methods can prove to be beneficial to you as there are a lot, from breathing exercises, to yoga, aerobics, imagery, music and a lot more. Choose which ones you are comfortable with that can also fit with your schedule.
The nature of your work can increase or decrease the effectivity of these techniques. Your perception of stress is also a factor. But if you think you have tried every stress management tricks out there, and nothing has worked, it may be due to your way of thinking. Along with individual perceptions, our manner of thinking affects the way we approach the circumstances we run into. It dictates whether or not we make things easier for ourselves.
Some people can handle stress pretty well. They can handle a lot more than others. At work, they take their assigned duties and treat it like it is cake while others would most probably say no to the tasks. This is because they see things differently than other people. Your performance in the office is affected with how you perceive things. Try to observe your trail of thought whenever you feel like you are in a stressful situation. Do you dwell on how hard the problem is or do you look for solutions? Are you the type that cries over spilled milk or the one that immediately grabs the mop?
Remember that being or feeling pessimistic about a certain situation or problem not only blows it out of proportion; you also eliminate any possibility of you finding a solution. Problems and situations can only be as big as we think they are, if you focus more on what might happen, chances are you will only get to the end of the day thinking where you went wrong, and voluntarily do it again the following day. Before you can get to real solutions, try to monitor the way that you think first, you may never know, the source of all your problems might be closer than you think.
